Singapore’s Formula One race will go ahead as planned this weekend despite thick haze shrouding the city state.
The haze will be monitored right up until race day but organisers expect it to take place along with a full entertainment programme.
Jean Ng, executive director of sports for the Singapore Tourism Board said masks will be handed out to spectators.
Assistance will be provided for any spectators who feel unwell, Ng told the TODAY newspaper.
All tourists visiting Singapore should also exercise extra caution outdoors, said Ng.
"We will point visitors to information on the wide selection of indoor options during their stay here should they be affected by the hazy conditions."
"Various Singapore government agencies have been working closely with (the) race organiser… to ensure the delivery of the best race and entertainment experience possible."
Air quality reached an ‘unhealthy’ level last weekend but has moderated since thanks to a change in wind direction.
It was the first time it reached an unhealthy level for three years.
The haze is being caused by the annual slash and burn policy at Indonesia’s palm oil plantations in Kalimantan and Sumatra.
