Small adventure company raises big bucks for Nepal
Adventure centre smashes £25,000 Nepal Appeal two months early
A UK activity centre, which pledged to help those affected by the Nepal earthquakes, has doubled the amount it wants to raise after smashing its first target of £25,000.
Live The Adventure, in Stottesdon, near Bridgnorth, was deeply affected by the earthquakes because they have been working in the country for over 25 years and have many friends and colleagues there.
As soon as they heard the news they pledged to raise £25,000 and to personally oversee the money being spent on projects where they were most needed.
And in just a few months, and two months earlier than predicted, the company has smashed the target, currently raising more than £35,000, and have now further committed to raising £50,000.
Ant Eddies-Davies, Live The Adventure founder and instructor, has already been to Nepal and set up a project to rebuild the home of a 101 Nepalese man and his 98-year-old wife.
The money has also funded the building of five remote homes for the families hardest hit in the Mangha area, and work has just started to rebuild the school at Kodari..
"We set the target as an amount that we thought we could achieve by the end of September and that would really make a difference to a community and district most affected by the earthquake," said Ant, who set up a registered charity http://www.nepalappeal.com to oversee the fundraising and projects on the ground.
"But we are delighted to have smashed that already and we will not be stopping there! The charity was set up as a result of the earthquake with the realisation that long term support would be required well into the future, and that’s what we will continue to do."
A Summer Ball held at the weekend raised a mammoth £11,000 and Ant said so many other people were still contacting them to help out or make donations.
If anyone would like to make a donation or hold an event for the people of Nepal, they should use the Live The Adventure Nepal Appeal site on www.justgiving.com
