Dense smog has hit flight operations in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin with dozens of services impacted and further disruption forecast for the days ahead.
By mid morning Sunday at least 35 flights were delayed or cancelled at Tianjin Binhai International Airport and the city’s weather bureau says the smog will unlikely clear for at least two more days.
An orange alert, the second highest advisory for air pollution, was issued with most highways in and out of the city closed due to low visibility.
The smog descended on Friday and has affected up to 40 cities, including Beijing.
"Tackling smog is a long-term battle. We should review the effectiveness of our measures after the emergency is over. More forceful measures should be taken next year to tackle air pollution," said Beijing acting mayor Cai Qi, the Beijing Daily reported,
The environmental ministry said the air pollution level is likely to peak on Monday, Xinhua news agency reported.
