Smuggling air marshals raise security questions

Friday, 05 Apr, 2006 0

Two federal air marshals pleaded guilty to drug and bribery charges for smuggling cocaine into the US, raising new questions about airport security.

The two marshals, identified as Burlie L. Sholar III and Shawn Ray Nguyen, admitted they took $15,000 to use their positions as air marshals to bypass airport security. They smuggled 15 pounds of cocaine, wrote the Associated Press.

Prosecutors said other items were also smuggled into the US.

News reports said the men are cooperating with prosecutors who would not say whether more arrests are planed in the future.
