Southwest Airlines has big expansion plans for Houston Hobby Airport

Southwest Airlines has big plans for its Houston Hobby Airport base. The Dallas-based carrier is committing to a $230 million seven-gate terminal expansion at Houston ’second airport.

Houston City Council just approved $20 million funding for preliminary work, and Southwest will pay the remainder of the $250 million project. It is expected to take up to five years to complete.

Southwest will get ownership of six of the gates for domestic flights, while the seventh gate would be used for international departures by multiple airlines.
