Southwest Airlines has announced the appointment of Tom Nealon in the newly created role as executive vice president strategy and innovation.
It marks a return to Southwest for Nealon who previously served on the board of directors and also worked in a consultant capacity for the airline.
Nealon was group executive vice president of JCPenney Company after serving in other leadership roles in information technology, corporate strategy and planning, and digital ventures.
"As a board member, Tom was engaged and contributed at a high level. Now, with his extensive knowledge in strategy, technology, and innovation, he will serve Southwest well in this leadership position," said Southwest CEO Gary Kelly.
Nealon rejoins Southwest in the new position in January 2016.
