Southwest Airlines' planes collide at Newark

Monday, 4 March 20193 min read

Southwest Airlines’ maintenance worries just got a little worse.

Two of its jets collided at Newark Liberty Airport at the weekend

A taxiing plane clipped wings with a parked aircraft at the airport, causing no injuries but did result in delays for passengers.

The Fort Lauderdale bound jet ‘grazed’ the other plane, the airline said, but was significant enough to ground it.

"The aircraft are currently out-of-service for review," the carrier said.

Passengers were rebooked but the delay was further impacted by near-freezing conditions and the tarmac covered with snow and ice.

The airport said there were many flight delays and Monday will see more with up to eight inches of snow in the New York area expected overnight.

LaGuardia Airport tweeted that all passengers due to fly out on Monday should check their flight status before leaving home.
