Specialist cruise lines target discerning passengers
Discerning holidaymakers are being targeted by a group of seven specialist cruise lines which place the emphasis on the destinations they serve rather than the ships they operate.
The Specialist Collection alliance of cruise companies offering “unique and distinctive cruise experiences” has been formed by trade association the Passenger Shipping Association.
The seven members are Celebrity Xpedition, Norwegian Coastal Voyage, Orient Express, Orient Lines, St.Helena, Swan Hellenic and Voyages of Discovery.
They offer voyages to some of the furthest flung corners of the world including the Galapagos Islands, North Cape and Antarctica.
A new micro-site containing profiles of each member as well as information on continents visited is at: www.discover-cruises.co.uk/specialist.aspx
A PSA spokesman said: “The Specialist Collection aims to differentiate the guest experience on the small specialist ships from that of other cruise ships placing the emphasis on the destination rather than the cruise ship itself. It also endeavours to position the member lines alongside equivalent unique adventure and cultural land based holidays.”
PSA director William Gibbons added: “I believe that the Specialist Collection will appeal to discerning holidaymakers who are looking for an alternative cruise experience and want to encounter something extraordinary.
“Once holidaymakers have tried a cruise to one of the more popular destinations such as the Mediterranean or the Caribbean they may then seek a more adventurous experience. The Specialist Collection illustrates some of the most exceptional cruise experiences available today.”
