Troubled national carrier Sri Lankan Airlines will postpone more unprofitable long haul routes and scrap plans to start flights to Melbourne next year.
An airline source, speaking to Sri Lanka’s Sunday Leader newspaper said routes to Frankfurt, Paris , and Rome will go, but it will keep flying to London Heathrow as it doesn’t want to give up its valuable landing slots there.
Its return to Australia is being put on hold in favour of more cost effective routes to India and China.
Unofficial figures reported in the media put Sri Lankan’s losses at nearly US$1 billion over the past six years.
