Strong earthquake shakes Tokyo
A powerful earthquake rattled Tokyo late Thursday night but didn’t spark a Tsunami warning.
It was initially measured at 6.1 on the Richter Scale.
The Meteorological Agency said the quake epicenter was in Chiba prefecture, which is just east of Tokyo.
"An earthquake occurred in the northwestern part of Chiba prefecture.Be careful not to stop the elevator or drop concrete. Please be careful about similar earthquakes for about a week after the earthquake occurs," the agency posted.
There were reports of buildings swaying violently and power outages but no damage.
Broadcaster NHK reported four people injured in Chiba.
Express trains in and out of Tokyo were cancelled and hundreds of Tokyo homes were without power.
Last week, a similar magnitude quake struck off the coast of Northwest Japan but didn’t cause any damage.
