Thousands of Easter holidaymakers arriving at airports without required Covid tests
Tens of thousands of holidaymakers arrived at UK airports without the required Covid test certification for their holiday during the first week of Easter.
Cignpost ExpressTest, which has testing facilities at airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham and Edinburgh, says it has provided last-minute, unplanned tests for thousands of travellers during the start of the Easter break.
Thousands of holidaymakers have been unaware of the entry requirements for their destination.
This means travellers risk missing flights or having to wait in long queues to complete their tests.
Nick Markham, co-founder at Cignpost ExpressTest said: “Because the UK has lifted all Covid restrictions, people naturally assume that all testing everywhere has ended.”
“However, many countries still have some level of Covid testing in place for arrivals. They include the US and most of Europe’s short haul destinations.”
“Airports are already under pressure with staff shortages often themselves caused by Covid infections. That could mean longer queues at check-ins or for essential purchases at the airport..
“We are urging all holidaymakers to check the entry requirements carefully for their destination before their departure date, and to book all necessary tests at the airport or in advance.”
Cignpost ExpressTest offers a free tool for travellers to check the latest rules for any country at https://www.expresstest.co.uk/find-the-right-test/
ExpressTest has more than 40 testing centres at city centre locations and airports.
