Tourism Ireland welcomes travel reopening
Tourism Ireland has applauded the news international travel will restart on both sides of the border.
The Irish Government has green lighted travel and is expected to implement the Covid Digital Certificate, opening up seamless travel from EU member states, starting on 19 July.
It requires the holder to have been vaccinated or proof of a negative test for Covid-19.
Tourism Ireland also welcomes the commitment to extend the Covid Digital Certificate to vaccinated visitors from other countries including Great Britain and North America.
Northern Ireland has also confirmed that GB visitors are now welcome to travel..
Tourism Ireland says it is now ready to roll out a promotional campaign to inform and welcome back international visitors.
Niall Gibbons, Chief Executive of Tourism Ireland, said: "Today’s announcement is an extremely welcome and important step on the road to recovery for our industry. This will help protect thousands of jobs and livelihoods across the tourism industry,"
"We know from our research that there is significant pent-up demand among travellers in Great Britain to return to the island of Ireland as soon as possible."
Since the pandemic, Tourism Ireland has been undertaking a mostly online programme of activity, to keep Ireland top of mind with consumers around the world.
The aim is to ensure that it is in the best possible place to immediately start converting business for tourism operators across Ireland, as soon as the time is right.
A significant element of activity has included Tourism Ireland’s #FillYourHeartWithIreland social media campaign.
This has delivered 1.8 billion impressions on Tourism Ireland’s Facebook channels, with around 127 million views and 13 million engagements.
