Mixed fortunes for industry shares as Monday markets push ahead

Travel industry shares enjoyed mixed fortunes yesterday as London’s equity markets registered solid gains despite a public holiday in Wall Street. The FTSE 100 index gained one per cent in value, putting on 43.3 points to close at 4204.4, while the FTSE 250 index put on a similar amount, adding 52.6 points to end the day at 5645.8.

Shares in airlines did well; British Airways added 7.75p for a closing price of 194.75p, EasyJet put on three quarters of a penny to close at 244p, and Ryanair gained 2p and ended the day at 436p.

Online retailers ebookers lost 7.5p to close at 575p, while its rival lastminute.com did better, gaining 12.5p to end the day at 288.5p. First Choice Holidays lost a penny to end the day at 112p and MyTravel closed at 24p, down 1.5p.
