Travel wages slip year on year

Tuesday, 24 Jun, 2015 0

Average salaries for travel jobs inched up very slightly last month compared with April, but overall wages are down 1.40% year on year.

The average travel salary now stands at £24,861, according to C&M Travel Recruitment.

Wages for standard travel jobs, paying below £40K, were up 0.58%, but they were still 1.31% lower than in May 2014.

Executive salaries were up by just 0.38%.

The biggest change seen last month was a rise of 3.39% in salaries for new roles in the north of the country, while salaries in the south dipped by 3.93%.

While the number of candidates searching for jobs increased slightly in May, there was a sharp drop in new vacancies.

However, while last month’s figure was the smallest since August 2014, the total number of new travel jobs created so far this year was still up by 11.27% compared to the same period in 2014.

"The uncertainty of the general election outcome clearly affected travel recruitment plans last month," said C&M director Barbara Kolosinska.

"There was a distinct drop in the number of roles being created in May, with the total being the lowest since last August. Fortunately, this already appears to be a blip, with June’s early total immediately looking far more positive."
