Travellers increasingly wary of flying, survey warns
Travellers are feeling increasingly nervous about air travel despite the easing of lockdown and falling rates of Covid, according to new research.
Nearly two thirds of people (64%) say they would not feel safe travelling by plane, up from 40% in early June.
The nervousness extended to other forms of transport, the YouGov study found, with 55% of Brits saying they would feel uneasy on trains. Just under half said the same applied to ferries. Both were significant jumps from the 31% recorded in June.
The over 65s were the most concerned with 75% unlikely to board a plane, up from 47% last month.
Unsurprisingly, younger people feel more secure, the study found.
Nevertheless, only 23% said they would feel fine on an aircraft, with a third uncertain and 44% unsafe.
Overall, only one in six people (17%) plan to travel abroad in the next six months, up only marginally from the 16% in the previous study.
YouGov spoke to 1612 people in the survey.
