Trip.com extends cancellation waivers to thousands of overseas hotels

Sunday, 28 Jan, 2020 0

Chinese travel giant, Trip.com, has expanded its ‘Cancellation Guarantee’ scheme, adding cancellation waivers for thousands of hotels overseas.

It initially offered waivers for bookings at over 250,000 hotels across China due to the expanding threat of the coronavirus outbreak.

Now it has added about 30,000 hotels outside of China for voluntary cancellations.

It is valid for bookings that were made before January 24 for a check-in date until February 8.

"We would like to express our deepest gratitude to these hotels for their staunch support and commitment. In view of the recent developments, including the spread of the virus within China and other countries, it is necessary to expand the initiative and include hotels in other markets," said Ray Chen, CEO of accommodation business at Trip.com Group.

The cancellation waiver expansion includes global hotel partners such as Hilton, Shangri-La, IHG, Marriott, Hyatt, Accor and Melia.

"We will continue to monitor the developments closely, and will thereafter take further action, whenever necessary," said Trip.com.

The virus has now spread to multiple countries and claimed the lives of more than 100 people in China.
