TSA seizes record number of firearms in 2021
The Transportation Security Administration has detected ‘an alarming’ number of firearms so far this year. According to TSA, 4,495 guns were seized from carry-on bags by October 3, which is a record number with three months of the year still to go.
The TSA discovery rate is 11 firearms found per million passengers screened in 2021, which is more than double the rate in 2019.
"The number of firearms that our TSA officers are stopping at airport checkpoints is alarming," said TSA Administrator David Pekoske.
