Turkey warns of higher risk of attacks as election approaches
Travellers to Turkey are being warned of an increased risk of attacks in the run-up to this weekend’s elections.
The UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office has updated its travel advice after the Turkish Government highlighted the greater risk of terrorism.
Visitors are advised to be vigilant in the vicinity of polling stations and avoid all demonstrations as the country’s Parliamentary elections take place on Sunday (June 7).
"The terrorist group DHKP-C (Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party Front) has launched a series of attacks in Istanbul in 2015 targeting the Turkish police and judiciary," it said.
"Attacks could be indiscriminate and could affect places visited by foreigners."
