Uber is going airborne in the Big Apple.
The ride-sharing giant is launching Uber Copter, offering short trips to beat the traffic for travelers to and from New York’s JFK Airport.
Trips between Lower Manhattan and the airport begin July 9, and initially will only be available to Uber’s Platinum and Diamond rewards program members.
Flights are operated by partner HeliFlite at a cost of between $200 and $225 per person for the eight-minute journey.
The fare includes a pick-up and drop off by a conventional Uber.
Users can schedule a trip during weekday afternoon hours and pre-book from five days in advance to just one hour before departure.
Uber says the service will save travelers up to an hour compared to being stuck in city traffic.
It offers competition to helicopter startup Blade which also provides a similar service from Manhattan to the three main New York area airports.
