Uber is finally disclosing the cost of fares upfront for riders.
Uber will calculate any surge pricing within the fare based on supply and demand, expected time and distance and the local traffic conditions.
"Upfront fares are calculated using the expected time and distance of the trip and local traffic, as well as how many riders and nearby drivers are using Uber at that moment. When fares go up due to increased demand, instead of surge lightning bolts and pop-up screens, riders are given the actual fare before they request their ride, Uber said in a statement.
It essentially takes out the guesswork for travel by Uber
It doesn’t mean the end of the dreaded surge pricing but at least customers will be able to make an informed choice without a nasty surprise.
The service has launched in Miami, New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego, and Seattle, and five cities in India with plans to expand to all markets in the coming months.
