Underwater casino for Macau

Friday, 24 May, 2005 0

Macau is planning to build an underwater casino as part of a plan to overtake Las Vegas as the gambling capital of the world.

This year, Macau’s casinos are planning to bring in $5 billion of gambling revenue and the new development, due to open in 2008, will be located on Macau’s Cotai strip.

The underwater casino hall will have a capacity for 450 gaming tables and 3,000 slot machines, according to one of its developers, Melco International Development.

The $1 billion resort will also house deluxe apartment blocks, 2,000 hotel rooms, a shopping mall and a 4,000-seat performance hall.

Melco Group managing director Lawrence Ho said the casino would be surrounded by water and marine life.
