United blames Brexit for route removal
United Airlines’ direct service from Newark to Newcastle has become a victim of the Brexit downturn.
United said the seasonal service would be discontinued next month saying it was ‘not profitable’.
"We have regretfully taken this decision because this seasonal route has not proved to be profitable and because of the anticipated impact of the weaker pound on UK outbound travel," a United spokesman said.
The value of the British pound has sunk more than 13% against the dollar since the country voted to pull out of the EU.
United launched the summer season six times a week service to Newcastle two years ago.
