At least six US cruise ship passengers have been detained for alleged drug smuggling after a large quantity of cocaine was discovered aboard a ship.
Customs and Border Protection agents found 24 pounds (11 kilos) of cocaine in a suitcase on Royal Caribbean’s Jewel of the Seas as the ship arrived in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The contraband was found by CBP officers with sniffer dogs during a routine inspection, the CBP said.
The contraband has an estimated street value of $300,000.
A total of seven people are being held on suspicion of trafficking.
Royal Caribbean spokeswoman Cynthia Martinez says six of the arrested were US male passengers.
No information has been released yet regarding the nationality of the seventh suspect.
