Value-conscious cruisers create unprecedented bookings
Carnival Cruise Line’s one-week reservation record earlier this month marked the second time for the record book during the ongoing peak wave season sales period.
Carnival said it booked 165,308 cruisers between Feb. 7-13, which beat a record nearly four years ago.
Cruise officials called it “unprecedented.”
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. said it had a record week of its own last January.
Not to be left out, Norwegian Cruise Line posted a peak booking day on Jan. 24.
Carnival became the second of the major cruise operators to score a record booking week during the ongoing peak wave season sales period.
When reporting financial results in late January, the management of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. said it had just posted a record week but the company didn’t break out the results by brand.
What’s behind the record-setting?
Cruise line official say value consciousness seems to be a major factor.
Carnival President Gerry Cahill also cited targeted marketing and sales efforts such as the company’s national "Didja Ever" television and social media campaign, and a 72-Hour Sale offering free upgrades.
