Vietnam Airlines leasing 20 Airbus jets to meet demand

Tuesday, 09 Dec, 2016 0
Vietnam Airlines Corp said it will lease 20 A321neo jets to keep pace with demand for air travel in domestic and regional markets.

The carrier will take delivery of the aircraft in 2018 and put them into service on regional flights of five hours’ duration or less.

The planes are being leased from multiple companies, CEO Duong Tri Thanh said.

The aircraft will help it realise its growth targets of an extra 10% annually, he said,

It has carried a record 20 million passengers so far this year.

In September VN also announced a deal to buy 10 A350 aircraft in a deal worth up to $3.1 billion.

Meanwhile Thanh said the carrier is ‘working hard’ on securing regulatory approval for direct flights to the US West Coast, Bloomberg reported.

It will likely start with flights to Los Angeles Thanh said.
