The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has unveiled plans to pilot an e-visa scheme for foreign tourists.
From January 1, 2017 tourists will be able to apply and pay online for 30-day visit visas which VNAT says will be processed within three days.
This latest effort reflects the country’s ongoing strategy to stimulate tourism, VNAT director Nguyen Van Tuan said at a press conference.
It will initially be a pilot scheme that will run until the end of 2018.
Vietnam has targeted 9.7 million international arrivals in 2016, and recorded more than eight million arrivals in the first ten months of the year, up 35.4%.
The e-visa facility does not affect travellers from countries which have already been granted visa-free entry.
These include Japan, South Korea, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, and Russia and ASEAN countries.
