Las Vegas welcomed almost 40 million visitors during 2013, with meetings and convention business at a five-year high.
Year-end data announced by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority show 5.1 million delegates visited the city for trade shows and conventions during the year, the highest number since 2008.
It represents an increase of 3.3% on the 2012 total of 4.9 million.
In all, there were a total of 22,027 events held in 2013, up almost 2% from the previous year.
Rossi Ralenkotter, CEO of the LVCVA said he was encouraged by the continued growth, especially in the meetings and convention industry and has a positive outlook for the year ahead with over $9 billion invested in new tourism projects.
Hotel occupancy rates remained high in the city’s 150,000 rooms at 84.3%, which is the highest in the country and 22% above the national average.
Daily room rates were also up in 2013, increasing by $3 on average to over $110 per night.
Las Vegas gaming and tourism contributes over $45 billion to the local economy and employs over 380,000 people city-wide.
