Virgin Voyages has revealed details on how it will be ‘brilliant to do business with’ for travel agents, or ‘First Mates’ as it calls them.
The cruise line is introducing a base commission of 10% on the entire transaction, is
Eliminating non-commissionable fares (NCFs) for First Mates and is banishing gratuities for passengers.
The cruise line said it has devised its sales strategy after research among agents and passengers highlighted ‘long-standing pain-points’.
President and CEO Tom McAlpin said agents were being offered ‘one of the most rewarding travel partner programmes ever created’.
"We are committed to delivering an ‘Epic Sea Change’ by getting rid of the things that annoy you and offering incredible value and experiences for your clients," he said.
No part of a booking with Virgin Voyages is non-commissionable, so First Mates will earn across their client’s entire transaction.
This includes all add-ons such as flights, hotel stays, voyage protection, Shore Things (shore excursions), spa treatments, any premium package, Sailor Loot (onboard credits) and even taxes and fees.
Virgin Voyages vice president of sales Stacy Shaw said: "The underlying issue travel professionals have is not being compensated for their hard work on the entire sale. With Virgin Voyages you will be."
In addition to abolishing gratuities for passengers, the base ticket fare for all sailings will include all eateries, group fitness classes and basic beverages as well as tips.
Sailors and First Mates can hold cabins for 24 hours with no money down. Once they’ve placed a 20% non-refundable deposit, they’ll have a grace period of seven days where they may change their mind for any reason at all.
Sailors and First Mates may also change voyage dates and names on bookings without penalties or fees.
In addition to the 10% commission, First Mates or affiliated organisations can earn a ‘Red Hot Bonus’ paid annually on sailed revenue up to an additional 6% if they meet certain production thresholds.
FirstMates.com is currently registering travel agencies in advance of the company opening voyages for bookings on February 14. Registered First Mates can enter a competition to win afternoon tea with Sir Richard Branson.
From February 5, FirstMates.com will offer tools such as downloadable digital and in-store marketing materials and interactive learning resources.
From February 6, it will host an immersive learning campaign beginning February 6 called Cabin Fever, which will help First Mates learn about cabins and RockStar suites, a key product differentiator.
