Virgin Voyages to name its first ship Scarlet Lady
Virgin Voyages is to call its first ship Scarlet Lady – a name that was given to one of the first aircraft in the Virgin Atlantic fleet.
Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson unveiled the name at the Fincantieri shipyard in Genoa, where the ship is being built.
He also revealed further details about the ship, which is due to launch in 2020.
A key feature will be the use of recyclable and reusable materials – and no items of single-use plastic, such as straws, water bottles, stirrers and packaging. This means Virgin Voyages will be one of the cleanest fleets afloat.
Passengers – known as sailors – on the adult-only ship will get complimentary filtered still and sparking water at bars and restaurants and will be able to fill up at water stations on the ship.
Branson also revealed more details of its ‘Vitamin Sea’ spa and wellness offering, such as a running track called the Runway and plans for morning and evening yoga on a secluded sundeck.
There will also be the Athletic Club with an outdoor training zone, boxing ring and gym equipment, and workout rooms with ocean views.
A second ship will launch in 2021.
