Western Australia to reopen border in February
Western Australia will finally swing open its doors to international travellers from 5 February 2022.
It will allow vaccinated interstate and international travellers to enter WA quarantine free.
Visitors to WA will be required to return a negative PCR test result within 72 hours prior to departure, within 48 hours of arrival to WA and on day six.
These are interim testing arrangements and are based on the current health advice and are subject to an ongoing review.
"Having achieved the 80% vaccination rate, the locked-in transition date is based on the latest projections for when WA is at its target rate of 90% double dose vaccinations," said Premier Mark McGowan.
"WA’s current zero-Covid environment and high vaccination rate will help deliver the softest landing, to minimise the impact of the virus and to keep Western Australians safe for the long term."
"I’m confident that this is the right time and the right way to take this important step," McGowan said.
The news comes following an announcement earlier this month where the WA government unveiled a new AU$185 million Reconnect WA package.
The fund enables airlines to re-instate international and interstate flight routes that were disrupted by the pandemic, as well as targeting new routes.
While double dose vaccinated international arrivals will not be required to quarantine and are not subject to the arrivals cap, unvaccinated international arrivals will be required to quarantine for 14 days.
