Wizz Air goes big in Spain with Madrid and Valencia hubs

Spain is set to become a major growth market for Wizz Air as the low-cost carrier opens its first operational bases in the country.

The airline will open new bases at Madrid and Valencia airports in early November, with operations beginning on November 3 in Madrid and November 2 in Valencia. The expansion marks one of Wizz Air‘s largest investments in Spain to date. It also confirms the growing interest of the airline for new bases around the Mediterranean Sea.

The two bases will initially host four Airbus aircraft, strengthening the airline’s operational resilience while supporting future growth in the Spanish market.

Serving domestic routes in Spain

The expansion will give Wizz Air a significant leap in Spain domestic network. New routes will link Madrid with Asturias, while Valencia will gain nonstop service to Asturias, Bilbao, Palma de Mallorca, Santander and Santiago de Compostela. The airline will also launch Bilbao–Málaga and Bilbao–Santiago de Compostela services, improving connectivity across Spain.

Internationally, Wizz Air will introduce flights from Madrid to Pisa, Italy, while Valencia will gain new links to Bucharest in Romania, Warsaw and Wrocław in Poland, and Chișinău, Moldova. The carrier will also increase frequencies on several existing European routes, including flights from Madrid to London Luton, Rome Fiumicino, Milan Malpensa and Budapest.

The additional services will provide travelers with more options for both leisure and business travel while strengthening Spain’s connections with destinations across Europe.

The investment is expected to deliver an economic boost to the regions served. Wizz Air plans to recruit more than 150 locally based pilots and cabin crew to support the new operations.

Opening our first operational bases in Madrid and Valencia demonstrates our long-term commitment to one of Europe’s most important aviation markets,” said Wizz Air CEO József Váradi.

This investment enables us to offer more destinations, create local jobs and provide better connectivity for millions of travelers. We are proud to become a stronger part of Spain’s aviation sector, and this is only the beginning of our ambitions here.”

The expansion also coincides with the rollout of WIZZ Holidays in Spain. The airline’s vacation package platform enables customers to book flights, hotels, airport transfers and multi-city itineraries through a single reservation, broadening Wizz Air’s travel offering as it continues its Spanish expansion.
