A Kentucky woman who contracted malaria on vacation in the Dominican Republic is suing two travel companies.
She contended the companies that sent her on the trip should have told her about malaria travel alerts issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
After returning from Punta Cana, Cheryl Thomas “began to experience severe fever, aches, pains and headache. “She was diagnosed with malaria and hospitalized for a week. Medical bills rose to almost $70,000.
The suit is seeking $74,300 in damages from A Plus Travel Corp. and Apple Vacations, both Pennsylvania-based companies.
