Established 15 years ago, the tour focuses on the exciting culinary history of the ‘Steel City’. Tour locations include the Strip District, Lawrenceville and South Side, showcasing food as diverse as the city itself.
Eat like a President at Pamela’s Diner
Said to be the best breakfast since 1980’s, Pamela’s Diner is a firm favourite among locals and travellers alike (including Barack Obama). The old fashioned diner offers hearty meals with comfort dishes such as homemade hash, speciality hotcakes, waffles and omelettes. Expect pretty in pink decor and speedy service with a smile.
Celebrate 90 years of Primanti Bros
Serving hungry locals since 1933, this derived from workers eating with one hand and driving with the other. Expect queues out the door at the Primanti Bros and a mile high sandwich that consists of meat, provolone cheese, tomatoes, homemade coleslaw and fries between two slices of fresh Italian bread. No trip to Pittsburgh is complete without one.
Taste Pittsburgh Pierogies
During the industrial era, Eastern European immigrants flocked to Pittsburgh by the thousands to work in the steel industry, open businesses and settle in the US. The most well-known dish is the hearty dumpling, the Pierogi. A Pittsburgh Pierogi is a crescent shaped dough that is filled with a mashed potato and cheese mixture. Head to S&D Polish Deli in the Strip District or Pierogies Plus in McKees Rocks to sample this iconic food.

Knock back a Pickleback
From fried pickles to a whole festival dedicated to the vegetable (Picklesburgh), this city knows how to celebrate the humble gherkin. In an attempt to reduce the effects of a hangover, local bars serve picklebacks. A shot of bourbon or whiskey, chased with a shot of pickle brine. Spirit in Lawrenceville is a good place to start.
