AAA warns of crowded airports for Christmas travel
The AAA is forecasting nearly 113 million people will partake in Christmas travel.
They will travel 50 miles or more between Dec 23 to Jan 2, up by 3.6 million people over last year.
It is expected to be the third busiest ever year.
This is partly because both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day fall on Sunday this year.
More Americans are planning to travel to take advantage of those long holiday weekends,” said Bevi Powell, senior vice president, AAA East Central.
Over 100 million Americans will drive to their family homes or vacation destinations.
It represents two million more motorists compared to 2021.
Christmas travel by air will see a 14% increase despite pricey airfares.
AAA predicts the number of fliers will be very close to pre-pandemic levels.
It says the busiest days for flights are Dec. 22, 23, and 26.
