Air France and KLM have finally agreed to refund passengers stranded during the volcanic ash cloud crisis following talks with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
Aviation watchdog, the Air Transport Users Council (part of the CAA) revealed last week that a total of 3,000 British passengers were still waiting for refunds, amongst them Air France and KLM customer.
It said some airlines were trying to avoid paying passengers’ expenses, even though European Union regulations state that they have a ‘duty of care’ to stranded passengers.
However, both Air France and KLM have since agreed to refund passengers ‘all reasonable claims’, said a spokesperson for the CAA.
"The CAA has been working closely with KLM and Air France and last week it was confirmed that following these talks, KLM and Air France would comply with the (EU) regulations," said the spokesperson.
"This is not only for UK passengers, but those affected across Europe."
