Air France takes longhaul surcharge to E30
Air France and KLM have followed in the footsteps of British Airways by raising their fuel surcharges.
Air France is blaming steep rises in oil prices for an increase of two euros per flight leg on domestic routes and three euros on medium haul service to Europe and North Africa.
Passengers making longhaul trips, to the US for example, will have to stump up an extra 12 euros each way (with the exception of flights to and from French Overseas Departments: Cayenne, Fort-de-France, Pointe-à-Pitre, Réunion, where it be 10 euros per leg).
These increases are added onto an existing charge of three euros each way on all routes. The increase will be paid on all tickets issued from August 24.
Partner KLM is also increasing its fuel surcharge by three euros each way on tickets bought from September 1. This is added onto an existing charge of 11 euros for European flights and 15 euros for international flights.
Both carriers say they will drop the increases when oil prices drop below $35 for over 30 consecutive days.
