An arriving Air India plane slammed into an aerobridge at Mumbai Airport, sparking a war of words between the airline and the airport’s ground handling service.
Both parties have blamed each other for the mishap at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, which caused some damage to the plane but no injuries to passengers or ground staff.
The Air India flight which arrived from Riyadh hit an aerobridge as it was being guided in to offload passengers and sustained minor damage to the left engine.
It had to be taken out of service for repairs.
Air India claimed the airport listed the wrong information for the type of aircraft which was denied by the airport.
Airport officials insisted the plane was being guided into a parking bay by Air India staff who were ultimately responsible.
That seems to be more likely, according to the Hindustan Times, which leter reported Air India had suspended an airfield technician who was assisting the cockpit crew.
"We will check if the staff member is properly trained," a senior air regulator official told the newspaper.
