Air NZ in airport row
Reports from New Zealand suggest Air New Zealand has it’s own internal Mole.
Air New Zealand group general manager Norm Thompson said an internal investigation was under way to determine how an 18 month old review of the operational safety of the airline’s air bridges, was leaked.
One News tonight said the report had found problems with the airline’s air bridge in Christchurch and also focused on the safety of the air bridges in Dunedin and Auckland.
Mr Thompson said there was nothing in the report – which was completed in 2004 – which suggested there were any safety issues with the air bridges.
However some “operational limits” had been placed on one “particularly long” air bridge in Christchurch , he said.
“But there are no safety issues with it at all.”
The airline was in the throes of undertaking a maintenance programme on the air bridges which included some replacement bridges, he said.
The air bridges were installed about 18 years ago and are estimated to cost about $1 million each to replace.
“But I want to emphasise there are no safety concerns to staff or customers.”
Mr Thompson said air bridges were “tricky things” but there had been no incidents involving safety issues with them, for the airline.
It was unclear who or how the report had been leaked but the airline was “quite appalled” it had been leaked to TVNZ, he said.
