Air-Scotland gets 32,000 hits on first day
A Scottish based and operated carrier is launching flights out of Glasgow and Edinburgh at the end of March.
Air-Scotland will fly from Glasgow to Barcelona, Palma, and Tenerife and from Edinburgh to Barcelona, Palma, Malaga, Fuerteventura and Alicante, commencing 29 March.
Air Scotland chairman, Dhia Al-Ani told TravelMole that the website had received 32,000 hits since launching the yesterday. He said the online booking system had broken down due to heavy traffic and the carrier was trying to direct bookings to the phone to reduce congestion on the website.
Air-Scotland calls itself a low cost carrier but offers two classes and meals with certain tickets. There are four ticket types to choose from. The least expensive, in Tartan, or economy class is Budget, priced from £25 one-way before taxes and charges, which is non-refundable cannot be changed. Tartan passengers can also opt for the more expensive and more flexible Saver ticket, which costs £5 to change, or the most flexible, Flexifare, which offers passengers two free changes up to the day before travel.
Meals are available to Budget passengers for £5, Saver passengers for £3 and Flexifare passengers for £2.
Passengers flying in the premier class, or Thistle get priority check-in, 31 inches of leg room instead of 27, more baggage allowance, headsets inflight, a hot meal and three drinks included in the fare. Mr Al-Ani added that Air Scotland was in the process of negotiating lounge access for Thistle passengers.
Tickets booked over the phone are posted to the passenger, and those booked over the internet can be printed out. Agents are given a username and password, and bookings are non-commissionable.
