An Air Transat transatlantic flight to Canada was temporarily grounded at Glasgow Airport when the pilots were arrested because they were allegedly unfit to fly.
The captain and first officer of the Airbus A330 were reportedly ‘impaired through alcohol,’ the BBC reported.
"Police Scotland can confirm that two men aged 39 and 37 years have been arrested in relation to being allegedly impaired through alcohol under the Railway and Transport Safety Act 2003," a police spokeswoman said.
They are due to appear at Paisley sheriff court, said the BBC.
The airline responded with a statement: "We will await the results of the investigation and judicial proceedings before making any further comments. The safety of our crews and passengers is, and will remain, a top priority at Air Transat."
Other airline staff are thought to have raised concerns over the pilots’ demeanor before the plane was depart for Toronto on Monday.
The pilots were later identified as Jean Franco Perrault and Imran Zafar Syed.
