Malaysia based budget carrier AirAsia has rolled out its ASEAN pass, offering up to ten flights across its Southeast Asian network from US$160 plus tax.
There are two options – a pass with 10 credits valid for 30 days at US$160 or 20 credits valid for 60 days priced at US$290.
The credit value for each segment is based on the length of flight; short flights of under two hours utilize one credit while longer flights require three.
Flights can be redeemed for destinations in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Philippines, Laos, Brunei, Singapore, and Indonesia.
It is not valid for last minute trips however, as 14 days’ advance booking is required, and departure tax and ancillary products such as checked baggage or priority seating is extra.
For example, a one-way trip from Singapore to Phuket in Thailand could cost the equivalent of less than US$40 including tax.
The ASEAN pass was due to be launched last month but was put back in the aftermath of the AirAsia Indonesia Flight 8501 crash in late December.
AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes hopes the pass will "bridge communities and attract more foreign tourists to the region".
"We are working on additional enhancements that will further benefit guests travelling from non-ASEAN destinations," he added.
