AirAsia India plans to lease grounded Jet Airways' planes

AirAsia India is the latest airline planning to take some of the grounded jets previously leased to Jet Airways.

The Times of India reports AirAsia has applied to aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to amend its operator’s license which lists an Airbus-only fleet for its operations.

It wants to change this so it can lease some of the Boeing 737s previously leased to Jet.

AirAsia India currently has 20 Airbus A320 jets and may also increase this by five, as well as taking the 737s.

Vistara is also planning to induct some of Jet Airways now grounded fleet.

Both AirAsia India and Vistara are backed by India based conglomerate Tata Group in joint ventures with Air Asia Group and Singapore Airlines respectively.
