After numerous hints budget carrier AirAsia X would likely resume flights to Europe, group CEO Tony Fernandes said that plan is now grounded indefinitely.
It will continue with its current strategy of flights from Asia of up to nine hours, Fernandes tweeted.
"AirAsia X is flying. Model is working. We have decided that ultra-long haul is not relevant now. Won’t get seduced into price wars over London," he said.
"We let the full-service guys fight it over Europe. Many of them are bleeding so much," he said.
The airline last flew to Europe in 2012 but curtailed Paris and London routes amid high fuel prices.
Aside from full-service legacy carriers, budget airlines Norwegian Air and Scoot have both recently announced Asia-Europe services.
AirAsia X will continue with its recently announced Hawaii route via Japan, Fernandes said.
He also said the airline is on track to record its best ever third and fourth quarter earnings.
