David Neeleman’s new airline startup ‘Moxy’ has chosen Salt Lake City, Utah as its base.
The Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development announced Moxy’s holding company Breeze Aviation will establish corporate headquarters in the city.
In a statement it said more than 300 jobs will be generated over the next five years.
"Breeze Aviation’s headquarters operation will be a welcome addition to Utah’s growing aerospace industry," said Val Hale, Utah GOED executive director.
It marks a return to the city for Neeleman who co-founded Salt Lake City based Morris Air.
Since then he has been instrumental in launching new ventures WestJet, JetBlue, and Brazil’s Azul.
Moxy plans to launch in late 2020 or 2021 with a fleet of used Embraer E190s from Azul before it takes delivery of new Airbus A220s it recently ordered.
It plans point-to-point routes to underserved airports in the US but has given no specifics yet.
There is no certainty it will actaully fly from Salt lake City and even the name could change.
The project has been dubbed Moxy but the airline brand may take a different name.
"Utah’s exceptional workforce and business environment will ensure that we have all the support needed to provide exceptional customer service," Neeleman said.
