Alaska Airlines has announced new transcontinental service from Southern California to the Washington DC area.
It is launching direct flights from San Diego to Baltimore’s Thurgood Marshall Airport from March 15, 2017.
Alaska already serves Baltimore from Seattle and Los Angeles.
Alaska is deploying Boeing 737s on the daily route.
"Travelers from throughout the Washington-Baltimore region will benefit from this new service. Alaska Airlines is offering more flight options and outstanding customer service for our passengers. Added service from Alaska Airlines enhances the travel experience and value for our customers," said Ricky Smith, BWI chief executive officer.
"Our San Diego customers will soon enjoy non-stop flights to this historic seaport city, as well as easy access to the nation’s capital nearby," said John Kirby, Alaska Airlines’ VP of capacity planning.
Alaska faces competition from Southwest Airlines which operates daily between the two cities.
