Alaska Airlines flight in emergency landing after losing tire
Passengers on an Alaska Airlines flight endured a rough landing after a jet lost a tire after takeoff.
After departing Washington Dulles Flight 309 continued to its destination at LAX.
An emergency landing was declared in advance and passengers were instructed to adopt the brace position.
There were ’10 seconds of really violent shaking’ according to one passenger interviewed after landing.
Alaska Airlines said there was a ‘main gear tire failure’ on the Boeing 737-900 carrying 175 passengers and six crew members.
“As precaution during arrival at LAX, our pilots declared an emergency landing to have extra support available if needed,” an airline spokesperson said.
“They got us in the brace position,” passenger Brent Drewette told local news media.
“It was 10 seconds of really violent shaking but then emergency crews checked and they brought us in and everything was fine.”
“While this incident is a rare occurrence, our flight crews train extensively to safely manage through many scenarios,” the airline added.
The plane is out of service and the incident is ynder investigation.
