Authorities said a ‘credible explosive device’ discovered underneath a rental car parked at Albuquerque International Sunport turned out to be a fake.
Police said the device was spotted Sunday by a mechanic conducting routine maintenance who alerted authorities.
The Avis Car Rental center where the vehicle was parked was locked down while a bomb squad robotic neutralized the device.
According to a CBS News report, police said the car was rented from a different Avis location and dropped off at the airport.
Airport spokesman Daniel Jiron said no flights were affected but the shutdown of the car rental facility caused long delays for arriving passengers picking up rental cars.
FBI agents are still investigating and have not disclosed the identity of the last known user of the car.
