HONG KONG – A fast track rail system will slash train connection times between Hong Kong and Mainland China cities.

The rail link will connect Hong Kong to Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

Due for completion by 2015, when it will be fully integrated with the Mainland’s rail network, the link starting in West Kowloon will cut travel times between Hong Kong and Beijing and Shanghai from the current 24 and 20 hours to 10 and eight, respectively.

Travel times between Hong Kong and Guangzhou will be cut in half to 48 minutes.

The Hong Kong section will consist of a 26-kms underground track on which trains will run at speeds of up to 200-kms per hour.
