All F1 Grand Prix 2020 races in Americas cancelled

Saturday, 27 Jul, 2020 0

Four Formula One races have officially been cancelled for 2020 across the Americas, including the US F1 Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.

The Austin race was scheduled for 23 October, followed by the Mexico F1 a week later and Brazil on 13 November.

All are now scrapped for this year as well as the Canadian Grand Prix which had already been pushed back from June.

Canadian travel curbs have made it impossible to hold the race this year.

The cancellation of the US Grand Prix is a blow as it had already had record ticket sales before the Covid-19 pandemic, said Circuit of the Americas boss Bobby Epstein.

"Hopefully we haven’t lost some momentum; it’s just delayed to 2021. Coming off last year’s sell-out, the desire for people to secure their seat for this year was terrific."

Texas has been one of the hardest-hit states with Covid-19 cases still surging.

The state-wide death toll is approaching 5,000 with nearly 400,000 recorded cases.

The 2020 F1 season has begun and it will see most races in Europe and the Gulf region.

Formula One expects 15 to 18 races this year, after three more in Europe were added to the schedule.

These are Nurburgring, Portimao in Portugal, and Imola.
