American Airlines is launching a second daily flight from New York JFK to Bermuda starting from next week.
From February 15, American will operate the flight six times a week, expanding to daily service from March 3.
"We are pleased that American Airlines looked at the performance of its Bermuda-New York service and determined that there was a real opportunity to expand on it," said Shawn Crockwell, Bermuda’s minister of tourism.
"Our business and leisure travelers have expressed a desire for more options during the winter, and we believe this new service offers that. It is imperative that we see an increased number of such travellers in order for the new flight to perform well."
American already offers an early morning daily departure from JFK to LF Wade International Airport.
United airlines recently said it would resume winter flights from Newark.
There is also likely to be more positive news for year-round airlift according to Premier Michael Dunkley.
Dunkley described recent talks with JetBlue officials in New York as ‘very productive.’
"Needless to say, Bermuda is a very important and dear market to JetBlue, one that the airline wants to expand its presence in," Dunkley said.
"While Bermuda continues to be a very strong market in the spring and summer months, we discussed the desire to improve performance during the rest of the year as the airline is committed to continuing its year-round presence," he added.
